How it works

What happens in the few seconds before the answer

Clay users never see any of this. They just get a profile in their table, or an empty cell when we are not sure.

  • Several methods, never one source

Every lookup runs multiple resolution methods in parallel against public sources.

  • Validated before it comes back

A wrong match is worse than no match: it lands in your CRM, then in a sequence, then in the wrong inbox. So every result is checked first.

  • The answer, and the alternatives

The best-scored profile comes first. When there are namesakes, the associated profiles come with it, so the decision stays in your workflow.

  • A few seconds per lookup

Down from 10 to 15 seconds, by running the matching in parallel and rebuilding the pipeline.

Who it's for

Built for the teams that live in Clay

Sales, marketing, RevOps, GTM engineers, agencies and recruiters: anyone who starts from an email, a profile or a domain, in the table where the rest of the workflow already runs.

  • Sales

    • Turn the emails in your pipeline into names, titles and companies before the first call.
    • Find each account from its domain and enrich it: size, headquarters, specialties.
  • Marketing

    • Resolve inbound signups to the person behind them, personal emails included.
    • Add the company from the email domain, then route, score and personalize.
  • RevOps

    • Fill missing names, titles and companies in CRM exports, from an email or a profile URL.
    • Namesakes come back as associated profiles, so nothing gets merged on a guess.
  • GTM engineers

    • Start a waterfall from an email: the right person first, every column after it.
    • Chain the four actions in one table, people and companies alike.
  • Clay agencies

    • Run the same table for every client, with no new tool to onboard.
    • Use Clay credits, or your own Reverse Contact key to keep usage in one workspace.
  • Recruiters

    • Resolve candidate emails to the person and the profile behind them.
    • Enrich a profile URL with experience, education, skills and location.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Reverse Contact account to use it in Clay?

No. The integration is available in every Clay plan and can run on Clay credits. If you already have a Reverse Contact account, you can connect your own API key instead, and the lookups are billed to your Reverse Contact workspace.

Which inputs can I send?

A work email, a personal email, a name, a company, or any combination of them. The more you send, the more methods can run, but a single email is enough to start.

What happens when several people share the same name?

The best-scored profile comes back first, and the associated profiles come with it. The decision stays in your table: you can keep the first result, compare the alternatives, or filter on the columns you already have.

How long does a lookup take?

A few seconds. It used to take 10 to 15 seconds; running the resolution methods in parallel brought it down. Part of that time is spent validating the match, because a wrong person in your CRM costs more than an empty cell.

How was the reverse email lookup benchmark run?

Reverse Contact ran it in September 2026: the same 2,001 emails, 1,001 work and 1,000 personal, went to each of the 10 providers. A result counts only when the profile returned was checked and is the right person; a wrong person counts as a miss.

Where does the data come from?

From public sources, through several resolution methods rather than a single one. Every record carries the date it was last updated. How we collect and process data is documented in the security and privacy pages.

Can I run the same lookups outside Clay?

Yes. The Person Enrichment API takes the same inputs and returns the same profile, and it is also available in ChatGPT, Claude, Zapier, Make and the CLI.
